Garneill sits on US Highway 191, about midway between Harlowton and Lewistown. The town sits between two sections of the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Crystal Lake in the Snowy Mountains east of Garneill offers camping, hiking and nonmotorized recreation. The Shoreline Loop Trail around Crystal Lake is an almost completely flat two mile hike around the lake which offers beautiful views of the area. In addition, during winter there is a snowmobile trail around the lake. In the Snowy Mountains (which are also part of the Lewis and Clark National Forest) visitors can camp, hike, fish, canoe and cross country ski.
