Savenac Bunkhouse - Haugan

Savenac bunkhouse is one of the buildings located at the Historic Savenac Nursery. The historic nursery was founded in 1907 as a Forest Service tree nursery. Nursery operations concluded in 1969 and now the site is used for cabin rental.

The bunkhouse was originally a garage converted to a bunkhouse. The sleeping facilities consist of bunkbeds and twin beds with mattress covers. There are four rooms with two twin beds in each. In total the bunkhouse will accommodate 30 people. Visitors need to bring bedding. Other accommodations include a single restroom with shower and a larger restroom with three sinks and two showers. There are no cooking or dining facilities in the bunkhouse. It is a sleeping facility only and has an upstairs and downstairs.

Historic Savenac Nursery is located at the Haugan exit with easy access to I-90. It is within walking distance to Lincoln's Silver Dollar complex which has a family restaurant, gas, convenience store and gift shop. The Savenac compound also consists of a visitor center that is operated from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Located on the compound are memorials and interpretive trails with plenty of room to roam.

Beautiful Savenac Creek runs through the compound. In winter, groomed snowmobile trails are just out your door and opportunities abound for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Lookout Pass Ski hill is located just 10 miles west on I-90. The world class Hiawatha Rail Trail is located just 7 miles to the west for pristine mountain biking. Numerous mountain streams, St. Regis River, hiking trails and alpine lakes are all available for recreational activities within just a few minutes of Savenac.

The bunkhouse is open from April 1 through October 14th for rental except for when it is reserved for administrative use or maintenance. Compound road is plowed in winter.

No cooking allowed in building. No smoking in building. Pets must be on leash in the main compound and not allowed in building. Visitors need to bring own bedding. There is a $75 a night usage fee.
