Twin Lakes Trail - Mcallister

A hiking trail climbing up to Twin Lakes.Twin Lakes Trail (424) pulls up away from North Meadow Creek, climbing steadily to a meadow. About 0.25 mile later it reenters the timber and runs for a mile at a steady grade along a steep side slope. You will see a classic example of a Depression era placer mining cabin visible from the trail. Above the cabin, the trail heads through open country, traveling the north along a ridge top. Heading back into the timber, it turns to the southwest and climbs the divide above the North Meadow Creek drainage. Once atop the ridge, the trail side hills gradually down to Lower Twin Lake.The trail wanders through various meadows and ridge tops that provide excellent views. Wildlife wanders up through these parks, away from the motorized travel below. Twin Lakes can offer good fishing and a great spot for lunch.This trail is open for non-motorized uses only, except snowmobiles over snow. The trail joins the North Meadow Creek Trail 340 at Upper Twin Lake, providing an alternate loop route out of the area; however, the North Meadow Trail is open to unrestricted motorized use.Length: 9.0 miles round trip.
