DescriptionThe Wapiti Cabin is located 13 miles south of Big Sky. The cabin is a rustic cabin located on a hill top meadow lined with trees. The maximum party size for the cabin is 4 people. The Wapiti Cabin is a one room cabin with 4 army cots, wood stove, dishes, pots, pans, table and chairs, axe, shovel, broom, and mop. There is no electricity or water. Visitors should bring their own equipment, including a camp stove and fuel, lanterns (please no candles), toilet paper, bedding, and pillow. An outhouse is located just east of the cabin. Firewood is provided for the wood stove only. Recreation opportunities in the area include several trailheads. Access to the Big Sky Snowmobile trail is next to the cabin. Hay and feed brought in must be Montana weed-free certified.
There is a usage fee $30 a night. Plowed within three miles of the cabin. Accessible by cross-country skis or snowmobile in the winter. Road access in the fall only. Grizzly Bears live in the area, store your food, beverages, coolers, and garbage inside the cabin. Please bring your own drinking water. Please pack out what you pack in, including garbage.
DirectionsWapati Cabin is located 19 miles southwest of Big Sky. From Big Sky travel south 13 miles on Highway 191, then west 4 miles on Taylor Fork Road 134 (located between mile markers 34 and 33), turn south at the Lower Wapiti trailhead onto Road 522, travel 2 miles south past the green open gate and the Wapiti Cabin is up the hill on the right (west). Winter access down the Taylor Fork Road may require four-wheel drive. Park at the Lower Wapiti trailhead and cross-country ski or snowmobile for 2 miles to the cabin.
