Janet Clarkson Memorial Triathlon - West Yellowstone

Janet Clarkson Memorial Triathlon is a fund raising triathlon held in memory of Janet Clarkson, a West Yellowstone resident who lost her battle with cancer at age 37. Janet was a triathlete and had competed in many events before being struck with cancer. Proceeds go to athletic scholarships and cancer research. Presentation of awards to the winners and a check to the American Cancer Society follows right after the race.

This is an annual event held at the Madison Arm Resort on the south shore of Hebgen Lake. The triathlon hosts many athletes from Montana, Idaho, Utah and Canada. The race course is entirely within the Gallatin National Forest and does not conflict with any vehicular traffic. Participants will be placed in age categories per the USA Triathlon requirements The water will be tested for contaminants prior to the race. The race starts at 10:00am and should be completed by about 1:00pm

Race course description:

Swimmers will start at the end of boat ramp, swim 500 meters to the turn around point, then back to the ramp.

Starting from the south shore location of the Madison Arm Resort, the 13.1 mile bicycle portion of the event travels through the Gallatin National Forest, on old logging roads. Participants will return to the transition area at the Resort, and begin the 4.3 mile run portion. The run is also on Forest Service roads and also ends at the transition point at the Resort. The winners will be announced and awards presented as soon as possible after the race.

Janet Clarkson Memorial Triathlon will start and end at the Madison Arm Resort which is on the south shore of Hebgen Lake.



From West Yellowstone go three miles north on US Highway 191/287, turn left at the Madison Arm Resort sign on Forest Service road 291, proceed 5.5 miles north west on Forest Service 291.

Swim leg is .65 miles, bike is 13.1 and run is 4.3. Entire event is within the Gallatin National Forest on old logging roads. No other conflicting vehicular traffic.
