Spanish Creek Cabin - Bozeman

Spanish Creek Cabin sits at the base of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness south of Bozeman, Montana. It makes an excellent base camp for those wanting to day hike into the Spanish Peaks. Several Forest Service Trails are adjacent to the cabin.

Spanish Creek Cabin was built in 1934 and is open all year. Electricity and running water are NOT available. Capacity is 4 people with a bunk bed downstairs and 2 beds in the loft. The Forest Service provides firewood for the woodstove. Basic cooking supplies are provided.

In the summer you can drive to the cabin but in the winter it is a 3.5 mile ski or snowshoe to the cabin. Price is $30 per night and can be reserved from 1 to 5 nights. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance. Last minute reservations (up to 3 nights in advance) are available by calling or going to the Bozeman Ranger Station (406)522-2520.

From Bozeman, head west on Main Street for approximately 6 miles until you reach Four Corners. Turn left at the stop light and head south on Highway 191 for 13 miles. Turn right on Spanish Creek Road and travel 5 and 1/2 miles west on gravel road. At the end of the gravel you will turn left and head south and on paved road. Drive 4 miles to the Spanish Creek Trailhead. Just after crossing a bridge over Spanish Creek and before the parking area take the small road to the left, pass through the gate and follow the road 1/4 mile to the cabin. The lock on the gate has the same combination as the cabin.

About the trail: During the winter months you will need to park at the Forest Service Bounday about 3.5 miles from the cabin.
