WD Working Ranch Vacations - Big Timber

If you love Montana, its vast landscapes and good fishing, this is the place for you. Imagine your very own cabin nestled in the trees on Sweet Grass Creek. The beauty, the natural quiet. The majestic Crazy Mountains looming nearby under Montana's Big Sky. The WD Ranch's three accommodations are on a 25,000-acre working cattle ranch at the foothills of the Crazy Mountains. You will enjoy privacy and seclusion and private fishing along three miles of Sweet Grass Creek. Just you and the natural surroundings. A great place to relax.

Sweet Grass County and the Crazy Mountains, with its many well maintained hiking trails, offer some of the most beautiful landscape in Montana. On the ranch, Porcupine Butte rises 6,790 feet, offering a panoramic view of 7 mountain ranges up to 80 miles away. Nature and wildlife abound in this area. On the WD Ranch you can expect to see eagles, great blue herons, sandhill cranes, redtail hawks, pelicans, curlews, and many songbirds as well as deer, antelope, and an occasional bear, elk, or moose.

Fishing is a couple minutes' walk out the front door. The rainbow and brown trout are plentiful, and the elusive big fish is sometimes found hiding along the bank. Fishing on the world-renowned Yellowstone and Boulder Rivers is great and close by.

The Langston House, surrounded by lovely cottonwood meadows alongside Sweet Grass Creek, feature two bedrooms with a queen and twin beds. Both have private baths with showers. The large kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, range with oven, microwave, and dishwasher. The dining room, with seating for eight, and the cozy livingroom both have large, bright windows. They are perfect for viewing the wildlife as animals pass by unaware. The Cayuse Cabin, a modern but simple four-room cottage with room for 4, is within sight of the main ranch buildings but secluded enough for privacy. The Donald Cabin, a renovated 1930s log cabin, has a queen bed and double futon. Both have fully equipped kitchens and private baths with showers. Towels and linens are furnished.

The Donald Lodge is a great place for family reunions. It features an indoor fireplace, outdoor fire pit and barbecue, volleyball court, horseshoes, and plenty of space for camping. Just one mile from the picturesque Melville Church, the Lodge is a great place for wedding receptions. The Donald Ranch House, with 5 bedrooms, is also available to accommodate larger groups.

In nearby Big Timber or Livingston, you can enjoy fine dining, museums, antiques, art galleries, or maybe a rodeo or other local cowboy events. Our Melville community has a 125-year-old tradition of ranching and remains largely unchanged in the last century. Cows and cowboys on a vast western landscape. Your vacation home will be in the middle of a cherished western lifestyle carried on in the old cowboy way. Neighboring is still a way of life here.

This is a vacation spot that will leave you feeling refreshed and satisfied. Completely content. You will want to come back. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our community.
